Public Events

Come join us for monthly Open Sheds, brought to you by My Writing Shed, and a monthly book club and open mic brought to you in collaboration with Lit. On Fire Books!

During our Open Sheds, bring a pen and notebook or laptop, get cozy and write — or hang out and socialize and chat. Both are welcome and encouraged. Headphones are recommended for those wanting to write without being interrupted.

Pen Pals: Writers Hanging Out With Writers

First Fridays are a unique opportunity to attend shows and open houses at several art venues in Peoria. Pen Pals Open Shed and Bookstore Hangs at Lit. On Fire Books add literary stops on your First Friday journey.

Stop by anytime on the First Friday of the month from 5-8 PM and get to know others in our writing and bookstore loving community. This is a social event, open to the public.

Saturday Night Writes | Open Shed

Saturday night’s alright for writing! Join us on the second Saturday of the month from 7-11 PM. Come to hang out, work on your latest project, or just enjoy the company of fellow writers!

This is a community event, open to the public.

Get Lit. Open Mic Night

Per Lit. On Fire Books, “This is mainly a poetry open mic, although fiction and music are welcome, just keep it simple/acoustic because we do not have a stage or room for big bands and equipment.

No sign up sheet, we hold an open forum. Join us anytime. Take the stage when you feel moved to share.”

These are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 PM. Read more about Lit. On Fire’s events here.

Banned Books Club

The monthly Banned Books Club is a safe space to discuss censorship and book banning. Each session focuses on a specific banned book.

Nov 8th: Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

Dec 13th: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

Jan 10th: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls

Feb 14th: Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D. H. Lawrence

Apr 10th: The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger

May 8th: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

Lit. On Fire Books may have copies of our book selections in store. To see what’s in stock, we recommend checking Lit.'s website and reserving a copy for in-store pickup. If it’s not available, you can always buy it online directly for home shipping from Lit.'s Bookshop page or from the individual links above.

The Banned Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 PM. Come out and join us for discussion worth having about a topic worth discussing!
