IP Law for Writers: Trademarks and Contract Approaches

Ed Lamoureux is here June 10th from 1-3pm to teach you IP Law for Writers: Trademarks and Contract Approaches.

Learn about trademarks, working with contracts, and what rights you maintain as a creator.

This is the second session of three which will cover vital information on copyright and intellectual property laws for writers in the current digital age. Don’t miss out on these courses which will leave you fully knowledgeable on the sometimes complex laws and regulations surrounding IP of creative material.

Be sure to make all three sessions, if you’re able, to learn the full extent of IP law for writers.

What You’ll Need:

  • Online material may be reviewed during class, so bringing a device with access to the internet, such as a laptop, tablet, or smartphone is recommended.

  • A pen and notebook or laptop for taking notes.

  • A Writership or Ticket, so you can register for your spot in this class!


Meet Your SHEDucator:

Edward Lee Lamoureux received a B.A. from CSU, Long Beach (Speech, 1975), an M.A. from WSU, Pullman (Speech Communication, 1980), a Ph.D. from the U of Oregon, Eugene (Rhetoric and Communication, 1985), and a Certificate in Intellectual Property Management from the University of Maryland. He came to Bradley (as Director, Basic Speech) in 1985. 

After 37 years at Bradley, first in the Department of Communication and then co-appointed in COM and in the Multimedia Program/Department of Interactive Media, Ed retired from BU May 15, 2023, where he remains Professor Emeritus. At BU, he taught Intellectual Property Law and New Media; Theories, Concepts, and Practices in Interactive Media; Privacy in the Connected US; Basic Speech; Rhetorical Theory, Rhetorical Criticism; Rhetorical Approaches in Sports COM; Rhetoric in Org COM; Blockchain/Cryptocurrency/NFTs; and Entrepreneurship; Western Civilization; and other courses. His research experiences and interests include ethnography/field research, rhetoric, religious communication, conversation, teaching and learning in virtual worlds, and non-linear writing. 

His publications include books on IP law, privacy/surveillance, and numerous journal articles and book reviews (primarily about rhetoric and communication). Ed’s creative production includes audio production, web work, machinima in virtual worlds,  as well as communication training via digital embellishments. 

Lamoureux was on the committee that established the Multimedia Program (now Department of Interactive Media) at Bradley, serving as Interim Director/Director of the Program for 3 years. Lamoureux was the Editor of the Journal of Communication and Religion (Religious Communication Association) for two consecutive 3 year terms, 1998-2003, and serves on its editorial board. He was a member of the President's Committee for Entrepreneurship and Innovation—the co-founders of the Turner School of Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He taught the first online course at Bradley (by more than two years) and taught the first Bradley course(s) in virtual worlds (as Professor Beliveau in Second Life).

He is a singer/songwriter who sometimes appears at local venues. Ed is married (since 1981) to Cheryl; they have 4 adult children (Alexander, Samantha, Kate, and Nicole) and 4 “grands” (4 years and under).

His Fall 2022 Intellectual Property Law in New Media course is available online.
